In the Spotlight

April 21 - June 3

Based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson, adapted by Frances Limoncelli
Music and lyrics by George Howe

A groovy ‘60s take on the famous tale! The Emperor is beloved as a chic trendsetter, but his ridiculous fashion tax is bankrupting the country. One heroic kid decides to teach the image-conscious ruler a lesson about what really matters - but they unexpectedly become friends. She is soon faced with a decision: should she tell the truth and risk his disapproval, or pretend like everyone else? This silly send-up has an anti-materialism message, and encourages all of us to be truthful about who we really are.

We are pleased to announce that we are now offering a sensory-friendly performance for every one of our mainstage shows this season! Sensory-friendly performances are perfect for people with cognitive disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum, and their families. They're also great for very young children, or anyone who would appreciate a more gentle and accepting environment. During a sensory-friendly performance, house lights are kept on, sound levels are lower, audience members are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance, a designated quiet area is provided, outside snacks are permitted, and audience numbers are kept smaller, to offer an experience that will be both enjoyable and comfortable.

Information now available on our 2016-2017 sensory-friendly shows - click here!
