The Magik Theatre is seeking playwrights to adapt classic or popular literature for youth into stage plays and musicals to be workshopped during the 2018-2019 season.
All applications must be for proposed ideas for new adaptations (not yet produced). Magik is seeking work that is appropriate for families with children ages 3 – 12 that have a small cast and a running time of 50-70 minutes.
If selected, each playwright will be required to attend monthly readings of new work, both their own and that of their peers, over the course of the season. Playwrights may submit multiple times, completing a separate form for each adaptation proposal.
If submitted before May 1, 2018 you will be notified by July 1, 2018 if your project has been selected to move on to the next round, and will be asked for an in-person or Skype interview and some samples of your previous work. If submitted after the May 1st deadline you will be considered for the following year.
The Magik Theatre is also seeking plays for production consideration for the 2018-2019 season. Magik produces plays that are appropriate for families with children ages 0-17. We have a strong commitment to adaptations of children’s literature. Our mainstage plays usually have a small cast and a running time of 50-70 minutes and are for elementary aged children.
