CARMELA FULL OF WISHES WORKSHOP

Bring the magic of the theatre into your classroom by signing up for a cross-curricular creative drama workshop! This season’s workshops pair with our tour production of Carmela Full of Wishes and are led by Magik Theatre Teaching Artists.  Workshops are available throughout the school day Monday to Friday, March 4th through May 31st, 2024. Each workshop runs 45 minutes to 1 hour. All workshops can be booked as an add-on to booking a field trip, tour, or independently. We offer three workshop options from which to choose:

Pre-Show Workshop

Our pre-show workshop will focus on building a framework for your students to understand the themes that run through Carmela’s wishes. This session will include a guided reading of Carmela Full of Wishes, a group discussion, a dandelion craft, and activating imagination activities which will culminate in small group performances.

Post-Show Workshop

Our post-show workshop will encourage your students to delve deeper into the themes of the play and the emotional lives of the characters. This session will include a compare and contrast activity (book versus play), an exploration of “I Feel” statements, and a chance for the students to create their own tableaus based on the story.

Independent Workshop

This workshop was created specifically for those classrooms that have not seen a production of Carmela Full of Wishes. This session will start with a guided reading of Carmela Full of Wishes followed by a group discussion about the book. Students will come up with a wish for themselves and create a dandelion with that wish, and they will then work together to devise group tableaus based on wishes for their school.

Magik Theatre’s Digital Resource Guides provide assets to enhance your students’ learning while they are away from the theatre. These cross-curricular guides include background information on the productions, vocabulary, discussion questions, games, and hands-on activities that students can complete with or without their teacher. They are a convenient way to plan short lessons and assignments, and they are TEKS-aligned! We can’t wait for you to use them!
