Our Mission
The mission of The Magik Theatre is: 1) To provide extraordinary and affordable professional theatre and educational experiences for children and adults. Our mission statement is created by the Board and Key Staff members. It is a strong statement that ensures that The Magik Theatre stays focused as an Educational Organization. Everything we do is a process designed to educate both young people and adults. Not only are our productions created to educate the audience, we also strive to educate young people to be the next generation’s theatre audience. Many theatre artists constantly bemoan the lack of audience for challenging theatre. Audience building takes educating an entire generation about the importance of theatre - to teach young people that the theatre is a laboratory, a safe stage upon which we can examine the issues which confront our society, hoping that in this safe place we can experiment with solutions, finally arriving at one or more that provides the best opportunity for society to solve the problem.
The Theatre is a miraculous place. Unlike electronic mediums, it activates all of our senses. Each night a play runs, it is a new experience. We bring together a different group of people which make up the audience. Most of them have never met, but for a brief moment in time, they are united in sharing an experience that will never happen just the same way again. The lights go out, and this particular group of people join hands and experience a once in a lifetime moment of play. Each performance is different because the audience sees the play differently; the actors react to the energy of the audience, thus making the performance different each night. Even though the playwright has written words which don’t change, the play changes because the tempo, rhythm, and intensity of the actors and audience change.
Each year the Board and Staff examine the mission statement to ensure all of our actions closely follow the principles set out.
